چکیده

interactions which can be done when more structural information is available, but they do provide order of magnitude estimates of interaction strengths. Evidently, considerable rearrangement of charge driven by reduction significantly raises the effective dielectric. It seems likely that centres S-2 and FR-2 are apparently low-potential clusters merely because they are the middle clusters in the sequence of electron transfer. Interactions in the equilibrium state favour the separation of electrons; at lower levels of reduction, transient electron transfer through the intermediate cluster could be feasible without energetic cost.

Nitrate and (per)chlorate reduction pathways in (per)chlorate-reducing bacteria.

The reduction of (per)chlorate and nitrate in (per)chlorate-reducing bacteria shows similarities and differences. (Per)chlorate reductase and nitrate reductase both belong to the type II DMSO family of enzymes and have a common bis(molybdopterin guanine dinucleotide)molybdenum cofactor. There are two types of dissimilatory nitrate reductases. With respect to their localization, (per)chlorate re...

Conjugative Transfer and Expression of Genes Coding for Periplasmic Nitrate Reductase in the Purple Bacterium Rhodospirillum rubrum

Plasmid pFR400. a derivative of the vector plasmid pPHU231 containing the structural genes of the peri plasmic nitrate reductase (nap genes) of Rhodobacter sphaeroides DSM 158 (F. Reyes et al., Molec. Microbiol. 19, 1307-1318 [1996]) was transferred by conjugative mating to a streptomycin-resistant strain of the nitrate reductase-negative nonsulfur purple bacterium Rho dospirillum rubrum SI. ...

Some properties of dissimilatory nitrate reductases lacking molybdenum and molybdenum cofactor

Novel periplasmic and membrane-bound nitrate reductases lacking molybdenum and molybdenum cofactor were isolated from the vanadate-reducing bacterium Pseudomonas isachenkovii, and their properties were studied. Both enzymes have some unusual features, i. e., the individual subunits (130-kD subunit of the membrane-bound enzyme and monomeric 55-kD subunit of the periplasmic enzyme) possess their ...

Evolution of the soluble nitrate reductase: defining the monomeric periplasmic nitrate reductase subgroup.

Bacterial nitrate reductases can be classified into at least three groups according to their localization and function, namely membrane-bound (NAR) or periplasmic (NAP) respiratory and cytoplasmic assimilatory (NAS) enzymes. Monomeric NASs are the simplest of the soluble nitrate reductases, although heterodimeric NASs exist, and a common structural arrangement of NAP is that of a NapAB heterodi...

Crystal structure of the molybdenum cofactor biosynthesis protein MobA from Escherichia coli at near-atomic resolution.

BACKGROUND All mononuclear molybdoenzymes bind molybdenum in a complex with an organic cofactor termed molybdopterin (MPT). In many bacteria, including Escherichia coli, molybdopterin can be further modified by attachment of a GMP group to the terminal phosphate of molybdopterin to form molybdopterin guanine dinucleotide (MGD). This modification reaction is required for the functioning of many ...
